As the number of fresh cases surpassed 25,000, Shanghai warned on Wednesday that anyone who breaks the COVID-19 lockdown restrictions will face severe consequences. Violation of the notice, would be taken seriously resulting in severe punishment in accordance with the law.

The police department was strictly monitoring the restrictions being implemented throughout the city and urged the city′s 25 million citizens to fight the pandemic together whole heartedly. Only vehicles transporting those involved in epidemic prevention work or those in need of emergency medical treatment were allowed, barring other vehicles off the road. They also advised citizens not to spread false information or fabricate road passes or other clearance papers, as millions of people were confined to their houses and struggling to receive daily necessities.

On Tuesday, Shanghai reported 25,141 new asymptomatic coronavirus infections, up from 22,348 the day before, and 1,189 new symptomatic cases, up from 994. The extensive lockdown and tougher zero-COVID restrictions in various cities around Shanghai have wreaked havoc on supply, putting transportation and logistics under great strain.
